The life and works of John Wayne

John Wayne's rugged looks, American football talents and acting ability certainly earn him the title of 'American Hero'. Like so many other American Hero's such as Elvis and Marilyn, John Wayne seems to have become more famous after his death, elevated to legendary status.

Today, John Wayne lives on in his movies, and people's minds, and a whole range of John Wayne memorabilia is available to pay tribute to his legendary status.

John Wayne was actually born Marion Robert Morrison as was later known by the name of Marion Mitchell Morrison. He was born in Iowa and lived there until his family moved and settled down in California. John was a successful football player, playing first for his team at Glendale High School and then later at University of Southern California.

Unfortunately, he suffered an injury while surfing at Newport Beach and was not able to continue playing football. As a consequence he lost his athletic scholarship, and had to leave the university due to a lack of funds. It was then he began working in the local film studios which would start his acting career.

Starting in the prop department, John quickly progressed into speaking a few lines here and there in films. This was to be where he gained his screen name John Wayne, which was decided on his behalf by his agent.

John Wayne mainly played parts in low budget films, until he was fortunate enough to receive stunt training in the'33 cowboy film Riders of Destiny. This got him a role in Stagecoach which gave him the exposure and credibility he needed to truly break into acting.

John Wayne believed in acting in films that reflected American values, and he turned down roles that he felt did not match these expectations. He later became the face of war heroes in movies, and was associated with the United States military despite not enlisting in World War II.

Sadly John Wayne died of stomach cancer in'79 after a long and successful film career. During this time he managed to find the time to have four wives, seven children, as well as a number of affairs. John also had strong political interests, mainly revolving around his American values. These values are what make John Wayne so memorable; the reflection of America in a glorified display on the silver screen.

The TX-L32S10 is one of the more popular additions to Panasonic's Viera line of flat screen sets and has many of the same features that have made them so popular. They include V-Audio Surround Sound and uses the Viera link for networking ease. The television set also shows the same cutting edge style that others in the Viera line show including a sleek piano finish which positively gleams.

The TX-L32S10 is very versatile in that it features four different performance modes. They include normal and dynamic viewing as well as cinematic and gaming modes as well. Its screen is adaptable enough to handle the quick changes that video games require which is important for a true gaming experience. If you are playing a heavy action game you want to make sure your screen can keep up with your gaming unit. If you are entertaining a large number of guests at one time the 178 degree viewing range is also helpful as you are able to view the screen from a number of angles without image distortion.

However, while the image quality was quite good, there are a few drawbacks to this TX-L32S10 model. While the screen pixel mapping was quite good, it did not conform to 1:1 screen pixel mapping. This unfortunately may make this television unusable by people who want to look at text-based items. The critical white-black uniformity was excellent but as far as individual pixels, there was no edge sharpening enhancement that could be seen, and in some areas the pixels seemed quite soft. If you are using this model of LCD TV for gaming applications, this may be an asset as it will prevent aliasing (where the picture becomes jagged). However, if you are attempting to use this television set for other applications, the edge pixel softening may not be something you want.

If you are not comfortable with a number of different AV components, there are features to this TV which you will appreciate. Viera link technology is a wonderful asset since you are now able to simply connect your AV components with an HDMI cable and connect it to the TX-L32S10 television set. At this point, it is suddenly possible to control diverse AV elements with one controller. And what a controller it is, too. Like most Panasonic remotes it is well thought out, simply designed, and quite functional.

Digital photography has not been forgotten either. Have you wanted to be able to display the images on your digital camera in a much larger format or present them to family and friends? The TX-L32S10 is an ideal set for you. You are able to display the contents of any LUMIX camera that is equipped with an HDMI output terminal. Simply connect the camera to the TV with a cable and you can display the contents on the television set. If your camera lacks the HDMI terminal you can also simply insert your SD card into a slot on the TV set and display the images that way.

While there are many features which make this TX-L32S10 television appealing to many people, it is an entry level LCD TV set and this is something you should remember. While there are a number of amazing features, there are some issues with this TV set. While the glossy finish of the TV set looks quite stylish, it is prone to scratching and will show fingerprints which may put some people off this model. Also, as far as screen images are concerned, while the image quality is good, if you are a performance user who wants to push this unit you may find you are unable to calibrate the screen to the extent you may wish to.

If you want a LCD TV for a decent price, look at the TX-L32S10. Its range of features and attractive price point may make this the TV for you.

New Prints Available from Artist Chuck Rosenthal

Rosenthal's beautiful canvasses of light dancing on seascapes, still life, landscapes and people have been a desireable addition for any home or office for some time. But not everyone could afford to pay for an original.

Now a new line is being offered of Mr. Rosenthal's light-filled canvasses. Giclee prints on canvas are available at a fraction of the cost of an original painting.

First, let's define "giclee." It is pronounced "gee-clay" and is from a French word that means spray. A giclee reproduction of an artwork is basically an ink jet digital print usually on watercolor paper or canvas. The process uses archival inks, which basically means it won't fade for a hundred years or more. Great care is taken in the process to produce the exact colors of the original painting. So, down to brass tacks, a giclee reproduction is high quality inks printed on a high quality surface, and is the best you can get in artwork reproduction.

However, since it is a reproduction, not an original, it becomes more available for the rest of us that didn't figure in several thousand dollars in our financial planning for the purchase of artwork. Hooray!

The old drawbridge and causeway between Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are the subject of another painting, although a visitor to the area may not recognize it today. The bridge is now gone, replaced by a new causeway. The sky in this painting is enchanting.

There are a dozen other paintings to choose from now that giclees have been released, and since the cost now falls within anyone's budget, a Chuck Rosenthal painting could soon adorn a wall at your home.
