Which Is The Best Hybrid Bike And What To Look For

By Mary Stackhouse

Are you thinking about purchasing a hybrid bike? If so, its makes sense to consider and learn about the various features and the build. If you are a first time buyer, this is more important.

The hybrid bike is a mix of road bike and mountain bike. They tend to be nicely sturdy and strong enough to be ridden both on road and off. To get a further understanding of the bike though, we should look more in detail at some of the main elements, which are the wheels, gears, the frame and handlebars.

To more understand the features of the bike we should look more in detail at the key elements. which are the frame, gears, handlebars and wheels.

Frames

The main frame will have been made from either a lightweight steel or aluminum, which will provide strength and durability.

The gears tend to be a good mix of both road and mountain bike. So you tend to be offered a nice range, usually with 3 chain rings, depending on the price. This allows good flexibility for climbing hills and for faster speeds on flat and downhill.

Wheels

Wheels

The wheels are what could be regarded as a good mix between mountain and road bike. The width is like the mountain bike - quite bulky - giving extra durability and stability to the ride. The tire pressure however is more like the road bike - much higher than the mountain bike, thus offering more road speed.

The rims of the wheels and the spokes are light weight thus its not sensible to do heavy duty off road riding for fear of damaging the wheels.

The hybrid bike then is a great choice for those cyclists who wish to keep to pathways and roads - the ideal choice for anyone to use to go to work, to school or for general exercise in the outdoors.

Make sure you do some further research with regards your specific brand of choice. Between each brand there are obviously going to be some minor differences.

If you have any particular questions or you are unsure about something, always contact the retailer whom you would be buying from for advice, rather than finding out something that is unsuitable about the hybrid bike once you have made your purchase.
