I worked for a customer service company a few years back. I had an officemate that lived in a subdivision less than a kilometer away from work. Beside the subdivision is the golf course where we often play in the weekends. It was always a welcome sight to see my officemate arrive at work in a cute golf cart. I can imagine the savings he makes driving that thing to work. He would always look cool as he parks his cab in the mall parking lot beside our office after work.
Maybe owning a cart for myself will prove to be economical. Renting a golf cart every time I need one is costing me quite a bit. I can even see it as a means of transportation in a retirement community. I remember my friend in the mall parking lot with his cart. Moving around that huge facility and looking for a place to park was never a problem to him and his rig.
A new rig would be something but I think I can also be comfortable in a used golf cart. A new machine will cost me quite some cash, but it has full factory warranty that comes with the purchase. I will also be taught of its roper care and maintenance since day one.
A new golf cart's cost varies from $5000 to $10000 depending on the features and accessories. With added features, comes the added cost. One can go extremely frugal and shave away the bare necessities and probably get a new one for under $5000. I don't think I would like a stripped cab though.
On the other hand, a used cart can really go easy on my pocket. I can look for a local individual party but I am not familiar with golf mechanics so that might not be a great idea. I might be able to find a local golf cart dealer that can provide me some type of repair service deal that comes with a used cab.
A used carts price may vary widely depending on the model and its features. It will also depend on the machines shape and condition. I believe I will be able to find one that is still sound, but I think having a trusted mechanic take a look at it before I actually make a final decision is in order.

An electric car I know is relatively easier to maintain than a gas cart but I do have to change the batteries every few years and that would cost me around $500 or so every time. My officemate told me that over a period of time, the effort and cost maintaining a gas or an electric driven cab works out pretty much the same. I guess it wouldnt really matter much to me then.
