Points To Remember When Hiring An Event Photographer

By Betty Wong

There are several company events, such as the visit of a major client, or a big conference, for which you need to capture the proceedings in form of photographs. To get these images, you need corporate photographers.

Photography for an event is a completely different skill, in comparison with other forms of this art like nature photography or studio photography. This is basically because events take place fast and the photographer has hardly any control over the proceedings. Capturing an event asks for a great deal of talent, and the photographer needs to be able to handle tricky situations. But the key thing is, a corporate photographer does not usually get a second shot.

There are some key aspects that you need to be aware of before you go ahead and choose an event photographer. He must have impressive accuracy and good technical know-how of light settings for his equipment, as most company events take place in covered halls. Even a great photographer would be of no help if the camera and lenses are not up to the mark, so you must insist on top-end equipment.

You must not go for an amateur for an event of any importance. There are many pros out there to pick from. You should check the work samples of the photographer and his familiarity with covering similar events in the past. A professional agency should also be able to provide customer feedback on past work.

Lastly, you should attempt to familiarize yourself with the chosen corporate photographer and let the photographer know your expectations in detail. This step is the most important, as without proper communication it would be difficult for the photographer to figure out what your exact needs are, and for you to be convinced about his services. There is no replacement for a good conversation to put the photographer at ease, and this way you would also be able to build a healthy working rapport with your corporate photographer.
